To that end, we are offering a new virtual series on the Legal Essentials to Exporting, funded in part by the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) grant.
Many businesses overlook or minimize the legal considerations that must be addressed for exporting. While exporting is a great opportunity for businesses to expand their customers, it does come with necessary and often strict regulations, procedures and practices relevant to the company’s products or services. The goal of this new training is to help businesses identify legal and compliance issues that are relevant as businesses pursue export opportunities.
In this event we will cover:
- U.S. Export Control Regulations (ITAR, OFAC, and EAR) and how they may affect doing business internationally including processes and procedures that can help ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Trade embargoes, sanctions and restricted party screening
- Enforcement – what happens when there is a violation
This webinar is the third in a three-part series covering legal considerations that must be addressed when exporting. In addition to attending the webinar, participants will receive a digital copy of the PowerPoint presentation and a Legal Essentials to Exporting Resource Guide (with hyperlinks to online resources). The OSU School of Global Studies and Partnerships will be hosting Dr. Payam Mohseni as part of its Iranian and Persian Gulf Studies speaker series. Escalation between the U.S. and Iran has greatly increased in recent years following the U.S. withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and the imposition of severe economic sanctions. The U.S. maximum pressure policy, however, has so far not brought Iran back to the negotiating table and has resulted in increased Iranian counter measures in places such as Iraq and Yemen. The recent U.S. assassination of Iranian General Qasem Suleimani has greatly increased ongoing tensions and portends to only further disrupt the regional equation. Dr. Payam Mohseni, lecturer in the Department of Government at Harvard University and former director of the Iran Project, will explore how Iranian strategy responds to U.S. foreign policy developments in the Middle East and what the future of the U.S.-Iran confrontation holds.
